Kanaal Nieuwpoort-Duinkerke and Nieuwpoort-Plassendale is not much used anymore. It begins southwest of Ostend at Kanaal Gent-Oostende, touches the ports town of Ostend and crosses the town of Veurne (Furnes), Then the waterway crosses the border to France an runs parallel to the North Sea coast to Dunkurk.
The waterway is part of the region northeast Flanders which is very popular to pleasure boaters.
