Le Blavet, a navigable River in Brittany
The Blavet springs east of Rostrenen at the Côte d’Armor. On its way it feeds the Lac de Guerledan. This storage-lake is the reason why the Canal de Nantes is not navigable all the way through anymore. (There is a project for a ship lift or transportation at shore). From Pontivy the river is mostly canalised and navigable, after Hennebont it depends on tides and is therefore a sea waterway.
Houseboat holiday in the south of Brittany:
Advantages: Because of the Gulf Stream, it has a very warm climate. Entry to the entire navigable waterways of Brittany, entry to the beautiful beaches of the Côte d’Armor
Disadvantage: Lies in the outermost northwest of the country (an advantage for Great Britain), can have a scarcity of water.
Until Hennebont suitable for all families, afterwards because of tides more demanding
Tourism
Brittany is surely one of the most beautiful departments of France and offers, especially on its south coast, something for (almost) everybody. Beaches, horse riding, biking, walking and of course trips on boats.
Wine and Dine
Near to the Atlantic a lot of fish and other seafood is served. Inland, meals are of course more rural. Surely, anyone will find something to his taste, for example Noix de Sant-Jacque, Crêpes completes, Galettes bretonnes or a Far Breton. Wine is not produced but as in the neighbouring Normandy, one gets a lot of cider.
