Canal latéral à la Garonne
In 1856 works on the Canal lateral à la Garonne, along River Garonne, were finished and therefore finally exists a save waterway connection to Bordeaux. Before it was depending on water level  of the Garonne. But, sure on realizes that it was too late for this link. In 1858, railway charters the Canal du Midi for 40 years and gets all the freight on the rail. Canal du Midi is badly undertaken, no more freight gets from there to the newly built side canal.

Locks had until 1970 the same measures as those on the Canal du Midi (30.65 x 5.80), but they were then lengthened to Freycinet measure. Again too late! Today, this well looked after and charming canal ist mostly used by tourism.

Wine and Dine
It is self understood that one gets here also the different Cassoulets which originally come from Castelnaudary. It is a stew with beans and different ingredients, according to the regions. Native here are the many dishes with plums, for example Les Brochettes de Canard aux Prunnes, Filet de Boeuf Cyrano and Pupiettes de Poisson au Bruneau. All these are of course accompanied by fine desserts. Wines depend on the region, in the north east the very special Cahors, in the west the wines of the Bordelaise. Since plums grow here everywhere, one hasn’t to go far for hard liquors either.
