The source of River Lot and its side river, Truyère, springs in the mountains of the Margeride, the Massif Central.
Le Lot Amont: It is navigable between Crégols at km 196 and Luzech at km 132 and has 8 locks. Another 65 km which are not navigable follow. This is very unfortunate since this stretch is of the most beautiful landscapes France has to offer. If ever River Lot gets navigable again on this stretch, it’s surely one of the most attractive parts for navigation in Europe.
Le Lot Aval: This one is then navigable from km 67 at Trendels to the mouth into the Garonne, which is navigable for a short stretch there.
It is a trip out of the wild offshoots of Massif Central, through the hilly area of Quercy into the wide, wine planted lowlands around Cahors.
Advantage: Beautiful, varied surroundings, good food and fine wines.
Disadvantage: The 64 km which are navigable at the moment are just enough for one week.
Le Lot is a river for lovers of natural surroundings and wines, suitable for families and friends. You might fall in love to this area!
FPP, Castelmoron & Cahors
The wine, Cahors, is something for individualists; it is a bit raw and earthy but suits the dishes of Quercy perfectly. Mushrooms and chestnuts of the oaks woods, truffle and nuts, often with eggs as well as lamb and pork are served.
