This absolutely unrivalled canal system is in the north of La Rochelle, most of it makes part of the nature protection park of Marais du Poitevin which is a marsh. Part of the Sèvre, of Mignon and Jeune Autise are navigable with houseboats. But there are next to them dozens of dewatering canals which can be used with canoes and flat rowing boats. These dewatering canals are unique in France and are visited by friends of nature from all over the world.

Most important place is the town of Niort.
