It is after Lake Balaton and Lake of Geneva the third in size of the European Lakes. The southern Germans like to call it “Schwäbisches Meer”. It is mainly fed by River Rhine. It has a length of 63 km and is 14 km wide. With a depth of 254 m, it contains about 50 milliard square meters of water. It is therewith also the biggest water reservoir of Europe. 135 million m2 of water are taken for drink water supply every year. In Baden-Württemberg, more than 4 million people get their drinking water from the lake, up to the far north of Stuttgart. This seems to be a lot but is not even the amount which is evaporating from the lake during the year…
Lake of Constance has uncountable Marinas, harbors, Restaurants/Hotels with their own wharfs and is therefore an Eldorado for pleasure boaters. The many very well known Restaurants of the three countries around the lake are legendary.
But in high season it might get a bit crowded even on this huge lake.
