River Oder has its source in Czechoslovakia. It crosses the border to Poland in the far southwest and gets in a huge bow to the northwest to the eastern border of Germany at Eisenhüttenstdt. As from there, the river is more or less the border to Poland. Then it takes leave and flows into the Haff at Stettin. Even though River Oder is the 5th in size of all the German rivers and is also a major waterway, it has its moods and is, for the often very low water level in summer, not very much liked by inland waterway navigators. Today its limitedly navigable until the turning off of the Gliewitzer Kanal at the south of Poland
