Manchester Ship Canal
The canal has opened up, by way of the mouth of the Mersey, a shipping link for the major industrial city Manchester that is comparable to those of cities on the coast. The last 2 km or so on River Irwell from Woden Street to Hant's Bank are only navigable with smaller boats.
