Lough-Erne-Navigation
From Belturbet one travels northward at first, through the upper Lough Erne. There are countless routes through the innumerable islands, and then the river brings us to Enniskillen, site of the only lock. This is usually open and in service only when the generation of electricity causes the water level in the two lakes to be different. One proceeds further on the lower Lough and passes Devenish Island, one of Ireland’s largest monasteries. The journey ends at Belleek. There is no link to the west coast.
