Arumervaart and Witmarsumer Vaart

It starts at Harinxma Kanaal, a bit west of Franeker and gets onto the Harlinger vaart at Arum, having crossed it, it’s called

Witmarsumer vaart
which goes to Bolsward by passing the villages of Witmarsum and Schetten.


Makkumer vaart and Van Panhuis Kanaal

Makkumer vaart
Is the more comfortable variety to get to Makkum at Waddenzee. It turns off the Witmarsumer vaart short before Bolsward and flows before Makkum into the
Van Panhuis Kanaal.
This modern waterway for big vessels gets to Makkum too by turning off the Trekvaart van Workum nar Bolsward a bit further south.
