Hardly arrived in Holland, River Rhine is parting and things become a bit complicated. Neder-Rijn branches off the main river at Millingen (it’s there not called Rhine anymore but Waal) and becomes first the Pannerdens Kanaal and then the Neder-Rijn. It crosses the province Gelderland westwards. At Wijk it has access to Amsterdam-Rij-Kanaal and at Culemborg it crosses the border to province Zuid-Holland, where it becomes the Lek.

This main waterway is heavily used by commercial vessels and offers therefore not ideal conditions for leisure Skippers! Great care has to be taken.

River Waal

Waal
Being the direct continuation of the Rhine, River Waal flows at the German border almost parallel north of Bergse Maas into the Amber as well. There is heavy traffic on this main waterway as well and it offers much less Marinas to leisure boaters then the Maas.
