blank_pageThis canal was built for political reasons, in order to avoid the occupation of the estuary of the Weichsel by Prussia. Finally, the project of a second connection between Warsaw and the Baltic Sea failed because the tsarist regime rejected an authorisation for the last few kilometres. Today it’s used by a marginal amount of excursion boats but deserved to be rediscovered, already for the widely unspoiled surroundings.
