Since the Debe hydroelectric power station has been built; it is unfortunately not possible anymore to navigate on the
Narew from its mouth. Skippers reach the ZegrzeLake from Warsaw over the Zeranski canal. It connects the Weichsel with the “home lake” of Warsaw, the Zalew Zegrzynki. Some Marinas and services are around there. The last ones for a long time! Having left the lake on its northern feeder, one can find something like a harbour after about 180 km on the river, at Ostroleka and then again after another 200 km at Augustow.

blank_pageTravelling on the Narew is a journey to the past. Surroundings of the lakeZegrzynski are more or less agriculturally used but east of Nowogrod at the latest, one finds oneself in an endless seeming heath and fen area, the Bialowieza natural park. Apart of some wolfs, elks and other animals, one is all of one’s own. The heath of Bialowieza is to be regarded as the last lowland primeval forest.

This navigation demands next to some courage a very careful preparation!
