Tröllhätte Kanal
the small "big brother" of Göta Kanal has a length of 82 km and is half as long as Göta Kanal. It has only 6 locks but their dimensions are for freight vessels of up to 4000 tons. It's over long distances an industrial canal. But, Göta Kanal would be a dead end without it!

Even though, the stretch Vänernsee to Kattegat can be managed in one day is the marina of Lila Edet worthwhile a stop. The oldest lock of Sweden can be looked at there.

History:
Works started in 1793 and in 1800, the link Kattegat to Vänernsee finally opened. It hasn't lost of attraction to commercial traffic during these 200 years. New is its importance for tourism. Together with Göta Kanal, Trollhätte Kanal forms the famous "Blue Band of Sweden" connecting Baltic Sea and Kattegat.
