River Severskiy Donets is a right side river of River Don.
its spring lies in the border area between the Russian town of Belgorod and the Ukrainian town of Kharkov (Charkiw). It crosses the southeast of Ukraine and leaves on its way to the border of Russia strongly meandering 787 kilometers behind. Then, it forms for 38 km the Russian Ukrainian border before it flows over another 224 km through Russia before it reaches River Don at Ust-Donezki.

Navigability on the river is strongly limited. First of all it is, as all the rivers in the region, frozen in winter and during the summer it very often has little water. Facilities along the river do practically not exist but the well prepared and equipped skipper can get as far as the barrier of Schstia.
